In reference to an article I posted a while back on "Incident to" which has caused a significant "stir", I need to clarify some some things. Medicare and other payers do not allow for a lower level provider (e.g. PA, NP, CRNA, etc) to supervise a higher level provider (e.g. MD, DO, etc.) ever. Yes, the author of the "Incident to" rule did provide some surprising and questionable thoughts on what she intended the rule to state, but there are other Medicare rules and regulations that will not allow bililng for services by a non-enrolled provider to happen, unless you are billing locums tenens.
